Venue Description

Calvert Trust Kielder is a charity providing accessible activities and a range of accessible accommodation to all ages and all abilities. Calvert Trust Kielder welcomes both day visitors and those looking for short breaks. There is accommodation to suit a wide variety of needs and budgets including- Activity holidays Respite care breaks for adults 4 star Scandinavian style self-catering chalets Luxury self-catering Sky Den tree house There is a wide variety of accessible land and water based outdoor activities.

Accessibility

Calvert Trust Kielder are recognised by the National Accessible Scheme with Mobility level 3, Hearing level 1 and Vision level 2. The entrance has automatic electric doors with glass awareness stripes across them. There is good contrast between the walls, floors and doors. Reception has a desk accessible for wheelchairs which has a bell located on it to get the office staff attention. The fire alarm is audio only, not flashing. All communal areas and bedrooms are on the level. There are no steps to exit the buildings.

Toilets

There are 3 communal public toilets, 2 side by side at the end of the lounge and 1 at the end of corridor 2. The doors of the toilets that are side by side open outwardly with ease. The door of the toilet at the end of corridor 2 opens inwardly with ease. There is good room to manoeuvre. There are clinical waste facilities in each. There are handrails at either side of the toilet. There is an emergency pull cord in each of them. There are no baby changing facilities in the toilets, only in the pool area. The sinks are at waist height.

Staff

All staff have received disability awareness training. All staff members received appropriate training to work alongside people of all ages and abilities within their role.
