Venue Description
Brú na Bóinne is the name given to a complex of ancient monuments lying about 8 km inland from Drogheda on the east coast of Ireland. Brú na Bóinne -the palace or mansion of the Boyne- is the Irish name given to one of the world’s most important archaeological landscapes. This area, between the towns of Slane and Drogheda, is where the River Boyne meanders into a dramatic loop or bend and is dominated by the spectacular, 5000 year old prehistoric passage tombs of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth. Passage tombs are found in a few other areas of Europe, but it is in Ireland that they found their most inspired expression. In 1993, UNESCO designated the Brú na Bóinne area a World Heritage Site.
