Venue Description

Opened in March 2017, the British Music Experience tells the story of British Music through costumes, instruments, performance and memorabilia. Whatever age you are, and whatever you are into, there is something here for you. We’ve got outfits worn by artists from Freddie Mercury and Dusty Springfield, to the Spice Girls, Adam Ant and X Factor finalists and musical instruments played by some of the world’s most renowned artists from Noel Gallagher to the Sex Pistols. We even have hand written song lyrics from Adele, the original statues from the Brits and the Apple Corp front door from Saville Row. You can also get involved. You can learn a musical instrument with the best music equipment available, from drum kits to keyboards. Teenagers will love to try their hand at being a rock star by testing the vocal booth and smaller children can enjoy the show and dance the decades in our dance pop routines studio! After the main event browse an exclusive range of gifts, clothing, books and memorabilia from the Merch Store and you can rest those dancing feet with a selection of delicious snacks and meals in the Star Café.

Accessibility

The British Music Experience has two entrances - a main entrance on Canada Boulevard (opposite the Mersey Ferry terminal) and an accessible entrance for wheelchair users on Brunswick Street. Our main entrance features two flights of stone steps - 8 steps to a landing area, followed by 6 steps to the entrance (accessed through the right-hand door). Within the entrance are 3 marble steps to the ticket desk. Our accessible entrance on Brunswick Street is reached via a ramp. Please use the intercom at the door and a member of our team will assist you. Alternatively, ask for assistance from the staff outside the main entrance. There is seating for rest points within the main space. The seating is around the marble pillars that are to the right and left of the main space. Audio guides are available in British Sign Language for an additional fee, and a transcript of the audio guide is available upon request. All of our till areas use a audio loop system for those with a hearing aid with 'T' switch functionality.

Toilets

There are accessible toilets next to the Star Café and inside the main exhibition space. Both have emergency alarms and are monitored by staff throughout the day. These are with step free access, grab rails and easy turn taps.

Staff

All full time members of our staff have been trained by the British Association of Guide Dogs for sight assistance
