Venue Description
Bothwell is Scotland's largest and finest 13th century castle. Part of the original circular keep survives. The adjacent semi-natural ancient woodland is full of woodland flowers, especially during the spring. There is access to the Clyde Walkway. 29 Mar to 30 Sept: Daily, 9.30am to 5pm (last entry 4pm) 1 Oct to 28 Mar: Daily except Thur & Fri, 10am to 4pm (last entry 3pm). Closed for lunch 12.30pm to 1.30pm.Accessibility
Approach to site is a level grass and concrete path 163m long. Visitor centre has a step free access. Monument The grassed courtyard has a paved pathway around two main sides. The upper and lower levels of the donjon are accessed by spiral stairs. The stair has 50 steps. They both have rope handrails on one side. The great hall is reached by a timber stair of 21 steps with single handrail. The exhibition in the cellar is down a set of six straight uneven steps.
