Venue Description

BBC Birmingham is offering people the chance to take a tour of the state of the art studios situated in The Mailbox in the City Centre. Have a look behind the scenes of programmes such as BBC WM and BBC Midlands Today and even take part in a special recording of a radio drama, complete with sound effects and music! Tours last approximately 1 ½ hours and give you a fascinating insight into the world of broadcasting. Please note, BBC Birmingham is a working building, so we cannot guarantee who or what you will see on the day of your visit. BBC Birmingham Tours are situated in The Mailbox shopping and lifestyle centre. We can tailor our tours for those with a disability.

Accessibility

Our tour is fully accessible for wheelchair users, a wheelchair is also available to loan. Scripts used for interactivity are available in Braille format and large font. A sign language interpreter can be booked in advance at no extra charge. Assistance dogs are welcome in our premises. A hearing loop system is at BBC reception. Most of our Tour Guide staff are MENCAP trained. We look forward to welcoming you.

Toilets

There are both horizontal and vertical grab rails to the right of the WC . The fire alarm in the WC does not have a flashing light, but audible alarm sounders can be heard in the WC. The access WC is also a controlled space. BBC Security and Tour Guides are required to know the location of tour visitors at all times and are familiar with safety evacuation procedures in the event of an emergency. A red alarm cord is situated in the WC and can be pulled if visitors need assistance. The WC is well lit with ceiling spot lights. The floor of the WC is tiled. There are sensor taps in the WC.
