Venue Description

Since March 2022, the Amsterdam Museum can be found on the Amstel, in the building of the Hermitage. During a large-scale renovation of the monumental Burgerweeshuis, the Amsterdam Museum will find its temporary home here. With a completely new range of exhibitions, public programmes and children's activities. Here, the Amsterdam Museum will display an entirely new collection presentation that, besides the traditional history of Amsterdam, also offers plenty of space for dissenting voices and lesser-known and more recent histories of the city. Exhibitions Temporary exhibitions also give the floor to residents and lovers of the city to show 'their Amsterdam'. With well-known objects from the collection and new or less well-known works, the Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel will show you that there is no single history of the city. Panorama Amsterdam In the permanent chronological presentation: Panorama Amsterdam, well-known and unknown stories about, and perspectives on, Amsterdam's past give an impression of how Amsterdam has formed and is still developing. Here you will see over 250 objects that give you a multifaceted picture of the many histories of the city of Amsterdam. Classic icons from the city collection by Lingelbach and Rembrandt alongside artists such as Raquel Haver, Natasja Kensmil and Brian Elstak.

Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel is fully wheelchair accessible (this includes lifts, parking spaces for the disabled, and accessible restrooms). If you would like to use one of our walkers, wheelchairs, or parking spaces, please make a reservation well in advance by emailing mail@hermitage.nl. Companions of persons with a disability receive free admission Would you like to bring a companion who will assist you? Companions of people with disabilities receive free admission. It is also possible to borrow a stool during your visit to the museum. These are lightweight and easy to carry. Stools are available at the information desk by the entrance.
