Reviewer of the Year 2016

After another year of excellent disabled access reviews, we can now announce our 2016 Reviewer of the Year! This year’s top reviewer has written an incredible 146 reviews, has reached Level 6 on Euan’s Guide and has had 197 people agree with the feedback he’s given. With a penchant for reviewing cafes and restaurants, not least of all on the infamous high streets of London and around the UK, we are delighted to announce ‘Squirrelpot’ as our Reviewer of the Year in 2016!

The 4★ Southwark Cathedral review

Squirrelpot wrote this review for Southwark Cathedral highlighting an unfortunate issue with the accessible toilet lock. Southwark Cathedral were quick to respond, interested to find out more as they were unaware of the problem. The door lock was promptly fixed, all as a result of Squirrelpot’s review! Another visitor added a third review for the Cathedral with an update that the door was indeed fixed - teamwork!

The 5★ Kew Royal Botanic Gardens review

This was a high-praise review for a venue which has impressed several reviewers on Euan’s Guide! Squirrelpot also provided useful photos of the accessible toilet which can be especially helpful for other visitors:

The 5★ Jamie’s Italian review

We loved how enthusiastic this review was! It’s a great recommendation for Jamie’s Italian in Brighton, and Squirrelpot gave lots of detail about the accessible toilet, including a helpful photograph of the lift controls inside the restaurant:

The 4.5★ Tyne and Wear Metro review

This transport review was full of useful photographs and helpful recommendations for the surrounding Tyne and Wear area:

“All trains and stations on the Metro system are step-free, there are audio announcements for every stop, and there is a visual display showing the next stop. Signage is very clear. Helpful floor stickers direct you to lifts. One place you must visit if you’re in the area is the picturesque coastal town of Tynemouth, and the cakes in the M&S in Sunderland are staggeringly delicious.” Read the review >>

The 5★ Eltham Palace and Gardens review

It’s always good to read about historic places that do disabled access well! Squirrelpot captured the accessibility of this venue perfectly:

“Full marks for accessibility – a brilliant place for wheelchair users to visit. Lifts and ramps make all areas accessible, and the short introductory film has an embedded BSL interpreter. The café serves delicious treats and snacks, with super-friendly staff.” Read the review >>

The 5★ Pitt Rivers Museum review

It was great to read such a glowing review of a curious museum like Pitt Rivers! Squirrelpot even added a little bit of trivia at the end:

“Brilliant – full marks for accessibility. Have a look at the pillars in the arches on the upper level. Every single pillar is made of a different type of stone, and the name of the stone is engraved at the base of the pillar. The lemon cake in the café was really fantastic.” Read the review >>
