Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Oxford

A countryside retreat with a French feel, Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons created by Raymond Blanc is surrounded by aromatic gardens and is home to a Michelin-starred restaurant. Every room is individually designed, and one visitor told us they love to return again and again:

“Pure luxury and extremely helpful staff. The room was on the ground floor. The bathroom has both wet room shower and a large bath with a solid, wide rim and grab rail. I was very impressed by what I saw and experienced, and even more by the willingness of the owner and staff to listen to what disabled people really need.”

Nanteos Mansion, Aberystwyth

Built in 1738 by the Powell family, Nanteos Mansion is a luxury hotel that has been rated five-star on Euan’s Guide! The hotel can be found between Cardigan Bay and the Cambrian Mountains, and is well situated for enjoying history and the outdoors.

“Access to the disabled access room was by an automatic door which triggered lights at night. This meant my husband could come and go independently. Our bathroom in our room was just great. The wet room shower had two shower heads, one fixed, the other adjustable. A shower chair was supplied. The floor was non-slip ceramic, and warm to touch.”

Crowne Plaza, Glasgow

Located on the river close to Glasgow’s major business and concert venues, the Crowne Plaza is a top choice with visitors to the city! One guest was impressed with the accessible bedroom and wrote:

“The toilet in the accessible room was quite narrow, however I was very surprised there was a tracking hoist in it. Although, you have to dismount the hoist machine from the tracking in the bedroom and connect it to the tracking in the bathroom. The tracking hoist goes right over the toilet and provides easy transfer from wheelchair to toilet and back. If you do not need the use of the hoist to transfer on to the shower chair then there shouldn’t be a problem because there is plenty of space, but the hoist doesn’t reach into the shower to transfer. The accessible room itself was very spacious and there were plenty of plug sockets at the side of the bed, this meant my overnight machines were able to be placed neatly beside me.”

Waldorf Astoria, Edinburgh

Known by locals as ‘The Caley’, Waldorf Astoria is a former Victorian railway hotel that is said to have ‘the largest bathrooms of any hotel in Edinburgh’. Both luxurious and conveniently located, one guest loved their visit to Waldorf Astoria:

“The accessible wet room was spacious and had a door the same size as the room door; again no tight turns. With an integral shower and plenty of space around the toilet it worked well for me.”

Fairmont, St Andrews

Situated in the ‘Home of Golf’, Fairmont is an elegant hotel looking out to the North Sea. The hotel lists on Euan’s Guide as having twelve accessible rooms located on the ground floor, and one guest wrote:

“Best hotel I’ve been to accessibility wise. Toilet inside the accessible room was fantastic! It was almost like another room. Roll-in shower with guardrails and handlebars. Emergency cords were accessible. Again, the best I’ve ever seen.”

Raithwaite Hall Hotel, Whitby

The coastal Raithwaite Estate in Yorkshire contains different buildings for guests to choose from, including The Keep which is at 28-bedroom hotel, and The Hall which has 45 bedrooms. One reviewer loved staying in the well-equipped Keep and wrote:

“The Keep where we stayed had a great room and a hoist was available if needed. The ensuite wet room was equipped to a high standard and the only problem was the shower seat was slippery, this was solved by them providing an extra bath mat to put on the seat. The main hotel was equipped to the same standard.”

Dorsett Shepherds Bush, London

Winner of the 2016 Catey Accessibility Award, Dorsett Shepherds Bush is a contemporary hotel housed in an elegant and historic building in west London. The hotel is listed on Euan’s Guide as having wet rooms and an overnight hoist, and says:

“Porters are available to offer assistance at both entrances of the hotel. The reception desk is 113cm high. Registration can be completed whilst sitting and we have clipboards available upon request. The registration card can be enlarged and a hotel associate will be on hand to fill it out if required.”
