June Review Round up
This month we have some exciting reviews from people across the UK who have visited new places and shared their experiences of disabled access. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to write a review on Euan’s Guide this month. We love reading your reviews and we appreciate everyone who reviews with us. Thank you!
Places to Stay We have a selection of reviews of places to stay in the UK. We have a five-star review of the Lakeside kitchen hydrotherapy pool and sensory room in Poulton Le Fylde by new reviewer Tanya. Tanya praises this facility for the level of accessibility that it has. “Great parking, flat entrance via a gradual slope, lift to second floor, accessible toilet with hoists and changing places.” The hydrotherapy pool Lakeside kitchen and sensory room form part of Brickhouse farm cottages accessible accommodation near Blackpool. The facilities can be used as a guest staying within the accommodation or as a local person visiting for the day.
Jane recommends Woodcocks for a meal and an overnight if you are travelling near Lincoln. Woodcocks is part of the Marstons chain of pubs, and Jayne has experience of staying overnight in this type of accommodation before. There are three main things that she highlights about her stay at this particular hotel. The accessibility of the hotel room, the accessibility of the pub where she had her breakfast and evening meal with her family, and the helpfulness of the staff in accommodating her dietary requirements. “It had a walk-in shower, plenty of grab rails and a shower seat. The accessible room is on the ground floor. The hotel part is only a short walk from the pub where we had dinner on our first night and breakfast each day, all the meals were good, and there was quite a good choice on the menu for evening meals.”
Things to see and do Holls x and her husband took time to visit The Ravenglass and Eskdale railway. Holls x comments on the way that the staff came to her and her partner who uses a wheelchair. The staff werer very attentive to their access requirements and provided the ramps for the accessible garage as soon as they saw them. There is an accessible carriage available for disabled people, and a discounted ticket for carers.
If you're looking for somewhere to visit in Northern Ireland, then try the Titanic Experience in Belfast and relive some local history. Finberrys highly recommend the experience. “We really enjoyed it, though it was very emotional at times. The whole attraction was accessible and it was lovely to spend the day learning about shipbuilding in Belfast, the Titanic, SS Nomadic and to walk around the docks If you live locally to Perth or are visiting the area then Perth Concert Hall comes highly recommended for an accessible night out. DerekinPerth went to an Alfie Boe concert. He had a positive experience with staff at the venue who provided accessible seating. “Went to a concert 7:30-10:15, doors open at 7:00. Ticketmaster didn't offer accessible seats, but the venue box office did.”
Explore the outdoors MartinPanther visited Glencoe Lochan as a non-disabled person and has visited since becoming a powerchair user and enjoys the Scottish scenery. He mentions that his power chair handles the terrain with ease, but some other wheelchair users might struggle. “Once up at the Lochan you will be thankful you made the effort. It's worth the trek. It only takes around 20 minutes to go around the water’s edge, there are woodland trails for the more able, but in my chair I'm able to just sit and take in the beauty at various points and forget all my troubles. Scottish scenery at its best.”
Review of the month - June
Holls x shared a very interesting review with us of her experience visiting the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway in Cumbria. Holls x and her husband enjoyed a very accessible day out. The staff were very attentive to their access requirements by providing ramps to go into the accessible train carriage. The review features lots of helpful photos for making the most of the day. We look forward to hearing more about your days out and holidays in the future!
