Overview
Had a wonderful day here with my family and saw many of the animals whose enclosures were vast and they seemed well looked after . As a keen photographer I was pleasantly surprised by how much I could see and didn’t feel as restricted in my views as other zoos / wildlife parks I have previously visited .
Transport & Parking
The new entrance is located on the opposite side to the original entrance and there is vast amount of parking. We visited midweek out of term time and managed to get a disabled spot quite easily however those who are maybe renting wheelchairs or find distance hard the walk to the entrance alone is quite far as you have to walk through the hive village to get to it - just something to consider.
Access
The new area of the park itself I found very easy to manoeuvre my wheelchair and found the paths to be smoother than most outdoor zoos I have been . As you approach the original part of the zoo some of the paths are not as smooth but are not uncomfortable. However the only problem I did find was that the woodland trail to see the wild dogs and the lemur walkthrough paths are very bumpy and have tree stumps galore which I did find unfortunately very uncomfortable/rough ride . However this can be easily avoided long as you don’t mind missing out on seeing these animals . ( As a keen photographer) The polar bear enclosures are vast and were one of my favourite to visit as due to the walkway being elevated above the polar bears I managed to see them easily and was able to get some very clear photographs of them.
Toilets
There is a new changing places toilet situated before you enter the park accessed by radar key . There is also two further ( possibly more ) disabled toilets located on the other side of the park with one being located by the leopards cafe - this was spacious and clean. The other situated in what was the old entrance there was a ramp to access this but the toilet itself was made very small as they had placed a changing place bed within the small toilet meaning I did not have enough room to turn my wheelchair around or reach the sink easily (nor was there any room for my helper either).
Staff
Staff were generally friendly and helpful especially in the safari shop where they let me in 5 mins before closing .
