Overview

We met up with family here who were visiting with grandchildren. We found it on the internet. I contacted them directly to enquire about suitability for a wheelchair or scooter user. They replied quickly and said it was wheelchair or scooter accessible. It’s not an easy place to find as our friends found out, they ended up in a car park for Asda . Once we arrived at the centre the car park is small with only one or two spaces suitable for disabled guests to park. The car park is gravel but fairly well bedded in. So not too difficult in a scooter. Entry is via a ramp the reception area and shop are very small and people had to move out of the way to let me in. But they didn’t seem to mind. It’s only a small place but they have quite a few types of owls, falcons and vultures. They do flying displays three times a day which were good. Different birds are flown at each display. Access to see the birds is all via a ramp and they are all easy to view from the scooter. The viewing area for the display was good I could stay at the top and see it all. There is plenty of seating below for visitors. We had a snack in the cafe which again is only a small area with few tables . As there were 9 adults and 2 children in the party we had to put some tables together and we took up just about the whole area. I remained in my scooter as I couldn’t have got to a seat easily. Staff were ok with helping to move the tables and seemed knowledgeable about the various birds. It was a nice day out and there was also a small play area for the children

Transport & Parking

4.5

We drove to the centre it’s off the beaten track, didn’t see any bus stops etc nearby.

Access

4.5

Access to get inside was up a ramp and to get around was all ramped so easy with a scooter. Although paths are narrow but easily manageable with care. A large viewing platform above where other visitors can sit to see the flying displays . Which meant I could watch the birds and some flew just above my head.

Toilets

0

They did have an accessible toilet but this wasn’t used

Staff

4.5

Staff were helpful in cafe , and the ones doing the flying display were also knowledgeable.
