Overview
Local train station to the AbleStay self-catering accommodation. We got the train from Worcester Park to Waterloo, which runs every 30 minutes. This is the best train is the best one to get into Central London.
Transport & Parking
I walked to this train station as it was only around a 7 minute walk away from our accommodation but, there are 3 disabled parking spaces right outside the entrance to the train station.
Access
As you walk to the train station you first come across a flight of stairs to get up to the train station however, if you walk further up the street and around the corner you will find the accessible entrance to the train station. There are automatic doors to get into the box office of the train station but, you can get onto the platform from the side of the box office without going into it. The train to London arrives on the platform that you originally got on to and then when you arrive back at the train station from London you have to go up the lift, across the bridge, and down in the lift again to exit the train station. The lifts weren’t busy at all and there was plenty of room for me in my wheelchair and my two carers. To board the train we were told to wait at the yellow ramps but the accessible entrance was further up the platform, I don’t know if this was because it was an 8 carriage train. However, the guard was very quick to jump off the train and flag us down to the correct carriage.
Toilets
I didn’t visit the disabled toilet so I cannot comment on them however, I also didn’t see any signs for them.
Staff
While I was at the train station, I didn’t interact with any of the staff members however, the guards on each train were very friendly and helpful with getting me on and off the trains.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I booked my assistance through Passenger Assist a couple of days before my journey and it all went according to plan. They emailed me straight away to say Worcester Park train station was an unmanned station and asked if I was okay with the guard on the train to use the ram onboard which I emailed back to say I was happy with.
