Overview
A beautiful garden and Edwardian Villa with a cafe/tea room in the heart of the city. A well thought out and detailed access statement is available on their website. Mobility scooters available to borrow for the beautiful gardens which have excellent paths suitable for scooters or wheelchairs. Some areas of the garden weren't suitable for the scooter but we didn't feel this prevented us enjoying the majority of it. The house was a bonus on a hot sunny day and we'll go back to give that more time.
Transport & Parking
Parked in the car park closest to the house though signs didn't direct us to this. Spaces were fine for us but maybe not wide enough for a driver transferring to a wheelchair. There was plenty of parking on the day we went - a sunny Saturday in July.
Access
The access was good, though there was a small annoying cobbled area on the way into the ticket shop. The paths in the garden were firm and suitable for wheelchairs/scooters we were also able to get into the majority of the glass houses in the scooter. A lovely wide terrace made driving the scooter up to tha cafe easy were we sat outside and enjoyed tea. It was counter service but the staff were helpful and carried out the tray of a wheelchair user visiting on her own. Most of the house was accessible in a wheelchair and ther was a lift ti the first floor.
Toilets
There was a disabled toilet but we didn't use it so I've not rated it.
Staff
Very helpful staff.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
We'll go again. The ramp at the front entrance to the house was a little narrow another 4" wide would be much easier to negotiate. And if anything could be done about the small cobbled area by the shop entrance that would be great.
