Overview
I write this for the benefit of potential holiday visitors. I have been attending this unit for over 20 years. During this time it has increased in size, but the disabled facilities have not. At least half the 24 patients per shift are registered disabled, yet there are only two disabled parking bays and one disabled toilet; also, although there is a dropped kerb, access is steep and awkward. The staff, by and large, are brilliant. I would also point out that for anyone considering this unit permanately free ambulance transport is available; the downside is you may have a delay getting home but its usually not too long!
Transport & Parking
Access
No steps, but awkward slopes, veering at on point in two directions. The hazard is unmarked, making it potentially dangerous for those with poor sight.
Toilets
Toilet has full facilities for the disabled. But there is only one disabled loo and one standard for 24 patients; when there is another incoming shift (3 shifts a day) it is theoretically possible to have 48 patients and only two toilets!
Staff
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Covid restrictions have been lifted, but masks and hand gel are freely available and you are encouraged to use them; many of the staff still do. Staff and patients are actively encouraged to take all available immunisations.
