Minimalist and spacious micro-roastery in Leith
Visit date:
Overview
Part exhibition space, part coffee shop (although it doesn't feel like a traditional coffee shop), Williams & Johnson Coffee Co. is on Custom Lane in Leith. It's very spacious, white and minimal with friendly staff at the coffee counter and French background music on the day we visited.
Transport & Parking
Not so sure about parking, but there is a bus stop outside with regular 16, 22 and 35 buses into town. There is also a taxi rank just outside. Approaching Custom Lane is a little bit cobbly and bumpy, but once you're through the archway the surface isn't too bad and there's a nice gentle ramp into the building.
Access
Pretty good! A nice low ramp is at the entrance, although the door isn't automatic. Not many tables, but the ones they do have are at a low height with benches and spaces at either end for wheelchair users. The coffee counter is easily approached as there really isn't a lot of furniture in this place. They bring your drinks/food over to you. The lighting is very bright, mainly because of the pure white walls reflecting all the natural light coming through the windows. The flooring was smooth and level.
Toilets
Didn't use these but there was a large accessible toilet (the only toilet I could see) in the coffee shop.
Staff
Really great staff at the coffee counter, very friendly and knowledgeable about their drinks. Absolutely no welcome or engagement from the two girls sitting at the exhibition desk right by the front door though.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Very nice hot chocolate, a few magazines (including my favourites!) and some food and cakes available. Atmosphere was okay, but very, very minimalist. Might be more fun when the Edinburgh Tool Library are around working outside!
