Overview
A great day out with lots of facilities to visit including cafés, shops, a small farm, small maze and a section Wentworth gardens. Levelled grounds allow easy maneuver wheelchairs. Disabled parking is available towards the entrance of the garden centre.
Transport & Parking
8 disabled bays are available towards the entrance gates of Wentworth Garden Centre. On my visit, these disabled bays were full with a couple of cars queuing for a disabled by to become available. Due to the business, car parking spaces close to the entrance on levelled tarmac are quickly taken. Although the garden centre does have a large car park besides the disabled bays, uneven, pebbled ground which could hinder manoeuvring wheelchairs. A bus stop is located a short 5 minute walk from the garden centre which buses from the centre of Rotherham run frequently throughout the day.
Access
Access throughout the garden centre is excellent, with wide levelled paths throughout. Ramps are in place to allow disabled access to all the facilities available. The shop has wide aisles throughout. The entrance door to the shop does however require someone to pull the door open, therefore assistance would be required for wheelchair users. An automatic exit door is in place. The farm located within the garden centre has standard doors and that require being pulled/pushed open, however a ramp is in place to enter the farm and the ground is levelled throughout.
Toilets
Toilets are well sign posted around the garden centre. Fully adapted Disabled toilets are also available which on my visit appeared clean and large enough to manoeuvre a wheelchair when required.
Staff
Staff were friendly throughout the facilities available. They appeared happy to help their customers and were seen to advice wheelchair users where spaces were available around the food hall and move table and chairs to accommodate space for a wheelchair.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I recommend Wentworth Garden Centre as an excellent place to visit that has numerous facilities available which have all been adapted for disabled access. The number of standard doors could make it difficult for a wheelchair user to open them independently, however the staff and large number of visitors around appeared happy to assist when this was required. The lack of disabled bays may hinder manoeuvring a wheelchair into the garden Center, however many parking spaces further away from the entrance are frequently available.
