Overview
Wembley Stadium, the home of English football, is an iconic sports venue, which also hosts concerts and other events. On our last visit we found a welcoming atmosphere for wheelchair users.
Transport & Parking
There is plenty of accessible parking at the stadium for blue badge holders. This has to be booked in advance, which can be done via the venue's website. For some events blue badge parking is free; for other events there may be a charge - this depends on the event promoter. The nearest tube stations - Wembley Park and Wembley Stadium - are stated to have step-free access, though we did not inspect this.
Access
Access from the car park into the stadium is via lift. There was a lack of signage to this from the car park, which led to some confusion. There was a considerable queue for the lift at the event we attended (we could only find one lift). The lift had space for two wheelchair users and companions. Once at stadium level, there was a wide concourse with step-free access; each set of turnstiles also had a wheelchair-accessible entrance. Once through this entrance, there was step-free access to the designated wheelchair spaces. Each wheelchair space was accompanied by a seat for a companion.
Toilets
There are stated to be 147 accessible toilets within the stadium, accessed via RADAR key. The two toilets that we visited during our trip were both spacious, with fixed rail on the wall side and drop-down rail on the other side.
Staff
All the staff that we encountered were friendly, polite and helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Although access for wheelchair users is very good, we do know of problems encountered by ambulant disabled visitors, as some tickets sold as "disabled-access" have not had step-free access to the seats. I'd recommend very strongly that any ambulant disabled people intending to visit the stadium check this out carefully when purchasing tickets.
