Overview

This is a review for the Milk exhibition which is on at Wellcome until 10 September 2023. As usual Wellcome have created a fascinating exhibition, which explores the cultural, historical and political aspects of milk. The exhibition has step free access, plenty of seating and guides in various accessible formats.

Transport & Parking

The Wellcome Collection is centrally located on Euston Road and almost opposite Euston Station. Also nearby are Euston Square and Warren Street Tube Stations. The nearest step free tube station is King's Cross. There are a number of buses that stop very close by. I travelled on public transport to get there and it was only a 2 minute walk from getting off the bus.

Access

I was really impressed with the spacious locker area. The lockers are free to use. On some of the lockers they have put wheelchair user signs. These are across all three different heights and are for disabled people. I loved this as I could use a locker at a height that was most comfortable for me. In other venues I have had to sometimes bend down and struggle to get items in the only available lockers. The locker had a coat hook, see photo, which made it some much easier and convenient. Would love it if other venues would do something simular. The Milk exhibition is in the gallery's main exhibition space. There is step free access to and around the exhibition. There is plenty to see with over 100 artifacts, art work and videos with captions. There is lots of seating with back support and arms. The final section of the gallery displays Jess Dobkin's art work, For What It’s Worth which is colourful and very creative.

Toilets

Accessible and Changing Rooms toilets are clean, spacious, with grab rails and emergency cords with Euan's Guide cards.

Staff

Staff friendly and welcoming as always. Nice to see staff inside the exhibition space acknowledging us when we came in.

Another engaging and endlessly fascinating exhibition from Wellcome, covering more than just the day to day consumption of milk. As usual the display is curious, questioning and very accessible. Well worth a visit and look out for their relaxed openings and audio description tours.
