Overview
The best place to stop by before going out to explore Shetland.
Transport & Parking
I’m not sure how good the transport is in the town centre of Lerwick as I left my car at the Lerwick Ferry Terminal. However, the walk from the Ferry Terminal to the shops only took about 20 minutes and the pavements were quite accessible for my powerchair.
Access
There is level access into the Tourist Centre however, the door was quite heavy to open. I’m not able to open doors myself anytime but, it would be good to have an accessible button to help open the door. The desk is quite high but, are able to go around the back of it and speak to a staff member. Within the gift shop and information desk area there was enough space for a wheelchair user to get around.
Toilets
I couldn’t see an accessible toilet when I visited or any toilets in that matter however, there is a Changing Places toilet nearby in the town centre of Lerwick.
Staff
We spoke to a staff member called Sheila when we visited but, due to publishing my review a year later I’m not sure if she still works there. She was extremely helpful though and provided us with lots of information before we went off to explore Shetland. She was also very welcoming.
