Overview
This is an agreeable restaurant in the heart of Soho. The staff are muddled about whether it's wheelchair accessible or not, and in fact most of the time it's not, and even if you can get in, you may not be able to get out. Absurd. Do not attempt to go here if you need step-free access.
Transport & Parking
The nearest step-free station is Tottenham Court Road, and zillions of buses stop nearby in Oxford Street. Take care, before you set off, to check whether the lifts at Tottenham Court Road station are working. Although they are brand new, they are notoriously unreliable and keep breaking down.
Access
There are four steep steps leading up to the entrance. When we booked a table, several weeks in advance, we were assured that the restaurant is definitely wheelchair-accessible and has a ramp for the four steps. So it all seemed perfectly fine. Two days before our visit, we were phoned to say "Oh, by the way, if there's a car parked outside, the ramp can't be used, because it's very long and has to extend into the road." So actually it's not wheelchair accessible at all, because you can't predict whether a car will be parked outside, and even if you can get in, you might not be able to get out later if a car has turned up and parked there. In addition, a ramp which extends into the road will have very serious safety and usability issues, and will be dangerously steep. Luckily I have some residual mobility and was able to negotiate the four steep steeps, slowly and painfully, and my friends were able to carry my manual wheelchair into the restaurant. BUT after original assurances about step-free access I had planned to visit in my extremely heavy powerchair, and if they hadn't phoned us two days before with their 'Oh, by the way..." warning, I would have turned up in my powerchair and been totally unable to get inside, as there was indeed a car parked outside. This whole situation is an absolute disgrace.
Toilets
I don't know whether there is an accessible toilet.
Staff
On the one hand the waiters and other staff we met were charming. On the other hand, the staff gave us very bad and inaccurate information about the reality of whether the restaurant is truly step-free. Very very unimpressive.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Do not attempt to go to this restaurant if you need step-free access. Even if they are able to deploy the ramp into the road, the ramp is likely to be unsafe, unstable, and impractical over such a long distance, and even if you can get inside via the ramp, it's very likely that a car will later park outside and the ramp will then be unusable and you will be unable to leave the restaurant. I will certainly not be visiting this place ever again.
