Overview
A wheelchair accessible University with appropriate facilities and has approachable staff.
Transport & Parking
There were multiple disabled parking bays spread over the campus.
Access
The majority of buildings appeared to have disabled access with ramped entrance, a wide automatic door and lifts taking you to the top. In lecture theatres, all the new buildings had dedicated seating for disabled access; however a few old buildings did not have this accessibility. However, after speaking to disability services it was apparent that they are making changes to this, in order to ensure that all premises have disabled access. Currently disability services liaise with the individual’s academic department regarding the support required. This often involves working with timetable services to ensure that the facilities being provided for the individual meet their needs. If braille is required it can be requested on certain documents. In addition, hearing aid loops are being installed in many teaching rooms.
Toilets
WC toilets for disabled users are available and more are being created with hoists being put in place too.
Staff
Staff were very helpful on informing us regarding the disability services they provide. The University work with the National Autistic Society and individuals with autism are recommended to have a mentor, this makes the University inclusive for all needs.
