Overview
I phoned my club (Inverness CT) to enquire about wheelchair tickets for Hearts FC vs. ICTFC. They told me that Hearts had already sent out wheelchair tickets to them so they sent them to me. The match didn't go as I hoped. It was an extremely close game but Inverness ended up losing 5-0. Our wheelchair accessible seats were great. They were in the middle of the stand (See photos for view) right behind the goal. Our tickets were for seats 93 to 97 but that part of the stand was shut so the staff simply moved us to the middle of the roseburn stand. Before I forget, Every club in Scotland should learn from Hearts and serve there pies in a heart shaped cardboard box so you can easily slide it out instead of it being a foil tin that you have to wrestle with to get your pie.
Transport & Parking
Tynecastle Stadium is located close to the West End of Edinburgh (Near Murrayfield rugby stadium) and can be located from there by taking the Dalry Road fork at Haymarket and continuing until Dalry Road joins Gorgie Road. From the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720), take the A71 Edinburgh West slip road and follow signs for City Centre. We were sitting in the Roseburn Stand which is located at the north end of the stadium. Access for wheelchair users is by the McLeod Street disabled gate. I have read many reviews of Tynecastle that says there is no parking for disabled supporters (Home and away support), but this is simply untrue. I emailed the Hearts disability access officer (Keith Ferguson) to ask where the best place for wheelchair users to park would be and he replied and said that he would be able to give me a space in the car park behind the away stand (car park is in the old school behind the Roseburn Stand). He told me that the street closed at 2pm sharp. He also told me to try and arrive at the gate between 1.30 and 2.00 when he would be on the gate and could make sure I get in OK. My tip would be, if you decide to visit Tynecastle to email Keith Ferguson by going on the Hearts website and clicking on club then contact us and select Disability access officer as your department you want to contact and to ask him about your parking options (It might be much different to my experience depending on the size of your club). However when we went to park, I was told that I wasn't on the list so I said that I had emailed Keith so it wasn't a problem. I would recommend this service to anyone who wishes to go to Tynecastle.
Access
Access is through the Roseburn street gate and then a short walk to the lift which takes you up to the 1st floor where the toilets and the food stand is then you take a left turn and your seat is right there. Smooth floors throughout.
Toilets
I had to ask the steward for a key to open the disabled toilet (ICTFC should take note). When inside the toilets are HUGE, it had everything that I needed and it was nice to see a proper red cord. Although, you can see by the photo that the railings was covered in rust or something else (You make your own mind up) but I wasn't going to check.
Staff
The staff were great, They waited outside the toilet to make sure I didn't need any help. The staff always want to help.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Besides from having some of the worst fans in Scotland who wanted to make sure that they told me the score in case I somehow didn't know the score and told me how poor Inverness were by managing to string a sentence together (It was a Christmas miracle!) but Tynecastle must be in the conversation for the most accessible stadium in Scotland! With a tremendous view, good staff, massive accessible toilets and great pies (always the most important thing).. Why are you not heading to Tynecastle?..
