This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair
Overview
There are level paths to most areas of the Zoo, but if you use a rollator/walker you need to be careful as there are uneven areas and thresholds which will make you unstable. I hired a wheelchair from Customer a Services for £1, but the brakes didn't work on it. There are lots of disabled toilets, but the doors are very heavy and self closing so getting in and out can be a struggle. The Zoo are obviously moving towards easier disabled access, and there was lots of building work in progress to improve things, but there's still a way to go. Restaurants and shops all accessible.
Transport & Parking
Plenty of parking.
Access
Be aware you will need to do a fair bit of walking to see all animals. It's a long way around made worse by areas being closed off for building work.
Toilets
Toilets ok with grab rails, etc, but doors too heavy and difficult to use with rollator/walker.
Staff
Very helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Supplying a wheelchair is a great idea as you may choose to use one once you realise how far you are going to have to walk. If you are hiring them out you should ensure the brakes work. The one I hired today was terrible!
