Overview
Set in a modern building, the hotel offers accessible rooms, food and beverages, as well as a friendly welcome. Its location in the heart of the city made for easy access to everywhere we wanted to visit. A ten minute walk to the river side, five minutes to the main shopping area, and five minutes to the Victorian Market made for a great time.
Transport & Parking
The Travelodge in Academy Street offers guest an amazing location to stay and use as a base to explore the city. We arrived by train and it was a short five minute walk from the railway station to the hotel. The bus station was equally close being a few minutes walk away with connections for local buses and the long distance services. The hotel has automated entrance doors. These are accessed via a shallow ramp with hand rails for all visitors. The location is excellent as a base for exploring as it is within minutes of the railway station, the bus station, the Caledonian Sleeper office, the main streets, and the riverside.
Access
Once inside, reception is immediately in front of you. A wooden style floor makes it easy to wheel around. Off to the left of the reception is the bar seating area and beyond that the dining area. The tables and chairs in the dining area are all moveable which made for easier wheelchair access. There are two lifts that take you to the upper floors of the building. The accessible room we had was spacious and had a very good wet room with all the features you’d expect to find. The beds were comfortable, the lighting good, and the room spotlessly clean.
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet in the lobby adjacent to the reception.
Staff
During our visit the staff were friendly and very helpful. On arrival a member of staff showed us to our rooms, explained how the lifts worked, and the procedures in the event of a fire. At mealtimes the staff taking our order and serving the food were friendly and welcoming.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The hotel was a great base to stay because of its location. It may be more challenging if you have your own car as there appeared to be limited parking in the area. Although there a quite a few disabled parking bays in adjacent streets.
