Overview

This was my second visit to this Travelodge on Waterloo Place and it was another excellent and accessible stay. I previously did a EG review in 2023, so please refer to that as it has more photos and information, as this is just an update. During my stay in April 2024, the hotel was in the process of being refurbished. This did not impact on my stay.

Transport & Parking

The hotel is five minutes walk from Waverley Station. There a several bus routes that stop close by. St Andrew's Square is the nearest tram stop.

Access

The building is step free with two lifts and automatic opening entrance doors. I had an accessible room on the top floor, see photo for view from window. Otherwise my room was very similar to my room last year. The room I stayed in had been refurbished. There was a new armchair which was extremely comfortable with arms, and was easy to transfer from, something many accessible hotel rooms do not have. The room had a wet room with plenty of grab rails and emergency cord. However, I found the toilet bathroom extremely low, it was like a toilet you would find in a primary school. I was visiting EG HQ and shared the photo with some of the Ambassadors and they agreed that it was too low. Apologies, but when transferring my photos from mobile to computer I have lost the photo, but please see last year's review as the toilet is of the same height. I think I noticed it this year and not last, because my knee problem has got worse during this time.

Toilets

I arrived too early to be able to check in, but I was allowed through to use their communal accessible toilet. This was clean, tidy and well maintained.

Staff

Staff were lovely and very welcoming. I was able to leave my luggage with them when I was too early to check in. They were very friendly and would always say hello when I passed reception. I spoke with Ana about the low accessible toilet. She informed me that a previous customer had struggled with using the accessible toilet and when she checked up on this she was told that the toilets met the standards for accessibility at the time they were fitted. Later we emailed about this, as the Ambassadors I met at EG HQ suggested a booster.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Another great stay and I was booked to stay later that week, when I returned from my coach trip. Highly recommend but hope that something can be done to improve the accessible toilets in the guest bedrooms.
