Comfortable & Clean budget accommodation in Edinburgh’s Old Town

4.5

Visit date:

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair, Powerchair

Overview

Stop over to attend a music gig. Busy hotel. On-site parking available. Accessible room wasn’t quite suitable for me, beds were very low, and narrow. Staff on-site were very accommodating in getting me a more suitable room, relocating me in a family room, which was big enough to manoeuvre my power chair, but bathroom wouldn’t be big enough to enable chair access, as advised , there are no grab rails available in the family room. On site bar cafe Only issue would be very heavy doors throughout the building, which I wouldn’t have managed if on my own

Transport & Parking

5

We travelled by car and used the on-site parking next to the building. There were 3 dedicated disabled parking spaces, car park fills quickly Those with mobility restrictions may be better being dropped off at entrance, as carpark hilly, and quite a walk from the carpark. Parking free to blue badge holders, advised to let reception aware on check in. Public buses passed by 10 minutes walk for abled bodied people from Waverley Railway Station Noticed lots of wheelchair accessible taxis in the area

Access

4.5

Steps at main entrance, and long ramp to access No automatic doors No wheelchair height check in, but was manageable 2 lifts to all floors, a bit of a squeeze with the power chair Good signage, plenty of seating for a rest. Induction loop noted. Doors throughout the building were very heavy, help is required to navigate

Toilets

5

Accessible toilet in reception area, not visited Bathroom in accessible bedroom roomy and plenty of grab rails

Staff

5

Staff very welcoming, despite being under a great deal of pressure with large groups checking in. When my room was not suitable , they changed it very quickly, and without any fuss, even making sure that we didn’t have to move too far unnecessarily . The receptionist Wendy was of particular help

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Hand sanitising stations throughout. Signage re mask wearing in public areas throughout, although being ignored by many. Staff wore masks, and Perspex screens at reception Red help cord available next to bed in accessible room. The accessible rooms in this hotel have narrow and very low twin beds, though there is space to manoeuvre a hoist under them. They wouldn’t be suitable for people with knee or hip problems .
