Overview
The Dressed to Kill exhibition at Torre Abbey is on until Sunday 20 November 2022. Lots of fun to visit and in a very accessible, historic building. See costumes worn by Maggie Smith, Bette Davis, Angela Lansbury, Emily Blunt and Judi Dench from Agatha Christie film adaptations including Evil Under the Sun (1982), Death on the Nile (2004) and Murder on the Orient Express (2017).
Transport & Parking
Torre Abbey is a 8-10 minute level walk from Torquay train station and similar but slightly shorter from the sea front. There are no buses that stop directly outside but there are many buses that stop on the sea front nearby. If you approach from the sea front from King's Drive, there is the very pleasant Kings Gardens, with a pond and wildfowl, which also offers bench seating. If you arrive by car there is designated disabled parking spaces.
Access
Torre Abbey has step free access. The main building's front door has a permanent ramp into the entrance/ shop shop area. There are stairs with handrails on both sides or a lift. The exhibition I visited was spread out over 2 rooms and there was some bench seating with no back support or arms in both rooms. Within the main building but with a separate entrance is their cafe. With step free access, accessible toilet and free standing tables and chairs both inside and out. See my previous EG review for photos of the cafe. I also attended several talks in the Spanish Barn, which again has step free entrance and free standing chairs.
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet in the main museum area and a second one in the cafe. Both are spacious, clean, with grab rails and emergency cord.
Staff
Staff are always lovely and helpful. The volunteers at the Agatha Christie Festival are very friendly and approachable. The cafe staff are always wonderful too and will carry my tray to my table for me.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Always love spending time at Torre Abbey and look forward to being back in 2023.
