Overview

Torquay Museum is a small local museum with lots of interesting exhibits. There galleries on local history including a reconstruction of an old Devon farmhouse, ancient Egypt and Agatha Christie. On this visit I attended a special event an Agatha Christie Mystery Day at the Museum, where there were film shows, radio play and talks. The museum also has a café.

There are both steps and ramp to the entrance. Once inside the museum is step free as there is a lift to all floors. Some of the rooms have lower lighting due to the age of the exhibits. There is seating in the galleries. Guide and Assistance dogs are welcome. There are large print guides. There is Induction Loop is available in Pengelly Hall for people attending lectures. Signed gallery talk and handling session are pre-bookable.

There are spacious and clean accessible toilets on the ground and 1st floor.

Staff

A friend called ahead to pre-book a seat as she also walks with a crutch. I hadn't thought about doing this but when we arrived 2 seats had been reserved in the front row so we occupied them during the day. Likewise when talks were taking place in another room I was give priority to go in and get a seat rather than queuing, which was greatly appreciated. Staff were very helpful and approachable throughout the day.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The entire day was from 9am to 5.30pm and it was extremely well organised. When we arrived we were given a timetable so we knew exactly where and when events were taking place. Lunch was included in the cost of the ticket which included wraps, cheese straws, scone with cream and jam and a bottle of water. The entire day was extremely good value and a lot of fun to attend. I look forward to returning next year. Interesting and friendly museum which I well worth visiting.
