Overview

I visited this local public hall to attend a meeting of the Shetland Guild of Spinners, Knitters, Weavers & Dyers. These meetings are monthly & are often held in one of the local halls. It is a group that has interest in the above areas & meet to chat, discuss & do one of the activities they are doing at that time.

Transport & Parking

Level, tarmac car park with 2 disabled parking spaces near to the front door.

Access

Access to the front door is a concerted ramp, then within the hall it is all level with access to all areas. There is plenty of room in the hall for a wheelchair to manoeuvre.

Toilets

There is an accessible toilet but unfortunately it was out of order on this day so I couldn’t use it & couldn’t get photos.

Staff

All staff in the local halls in Shetland are on a volunteer basis. They are friendly, accommodating towards people with disabilities & are helpful to try to make things easy & accessible to all types of disability.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The local halls in Shetland are used for a wide variety of events - eg Sunday afternoon teas, Shetland Folk Festival concerts, Shetland Fiddle & Accordion concerts, Wool Week events, plus other local events. If visiting Shetland & seeing what is on, if outside of the main town, Lerwick, it will more than likely be in one of the local halls. I plan to review a lot of the halls over the next few months & will post them on Euan’s guide.
