Overview
Lovely gardens with some beautiful planting. Many plants were labelled but not all. Unfortunately, the site is on a hill, which is a challenge on a walker. The walled garden was lovely, though it took me 30 minutes to get down to it. The last part was reasonably level, so much less tricky than the long slope down. The visitor centre is a great place to go for coffee and cake, or a light meal, and the imaginative menu was locally sourced.
Transport & Parking
Drove there. Good car park with disabled spaces
Access
step free access to visitor centre and cafe, including accessible toilet, shop and plant nursery. Ramp or steps down to a long sloping path into the gardens, which was very hard work on my walker, as I had to go very slowly to avoid being carried away by my walker. The ramp from the cafe had a handrail, which made it much easier, but the handrail did not continue down the hill. It was a long way for me to the walled garden, with not enough benches on the way. Paths were tarmac, but the walled garden paths were fine gravel which was harder to wheel on. four benches in the centre, and two more benches in the glasshouse, and one of the glass houses had a fish pond. The site does loan out mobility scooters but I don't use one.
Toilets
nice clean accessible loo.
