Overview
We spent a lovely afternoon here. More about access later in review. Staff at reception were helpful and explained I would only be able to see the garden from the top as it’s steps to access this. Getting around inside was ok but would have struggled if I had my scooter as it’s quite narrow . It was fine with my wheelchair. Many scenes from the books are on display in the form of stuffed animals . Which I have to say are very well made. The scenes are amazing . There is also a garden which I could see from the upper level this too was very interesting. There is also an exhibit about Beatrix potter and her life. Everything apart from the garden was accessible some areas had a slight slope, there were information boards telling you about the scenes. The centre also has a cafe and shop. The shop was fully accessible. We didn’t visit the cafe . They also do afternoon tea pre booked with characters from the books as well as parties . We spent longer than expected visiting the exhibits.
Transport & Parking
Unfortunately they don’t have their own car park . You have to park either on the roadside or public Car park about 10 mins away. This car park only had a couple of blue badge spaces .all were full but we managed to find a space at the end of a row so we could open the door wide enough for me to get in and out.
Access
Once inside access was ok although I wouldn’t have got round with my scooter as paths are narrow. I couldn’t access the garden as this is downstairs. Getting to the reception was totally a different situation. Pavements from the car park were narrow . Drop kerbs few and far between . To get over the road to get up towards reception. Getting up to reception was certainly difficult the slope is so very steep and full of pot holes. Just as well we had my aunt and uncle to help as well it took the three of them to push me up the hill in my wheelchair. We had to come down backwards again it took the three of them as it was so unsafe .
Toilets
Presumably there were accessible toilets in the cafe but as we didn’t go to the cafe I don’t know .
Staff
Staff at reception were helpful .
