The Wharf Inn, Pub, Restaurant and Camping
Visit date:
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair
Overview
Next to a canal and road. Pub, restaurant, camping field, caravan site, on site hairdressers/beauty salon, launderette and camp/village shop. Popular with locals, tourists, boaters and motorcyclists. Helpful staff, good food and drink make up for some of the old buildings failings. A nice touch for those not "drinking", is free refills of tea, coffee and soda water with cordial.
Transport & Parking
2 disabled spaces next to Pub (both occupied at time of visit) Parked on "old main road" (now bypassed) at front of building.
Access
Whole site on a slope but reasonably flat paths with ramps at all level changes. Narrow front door, just got through in my 28 inch (pushrim to pushrim) wheelchair. Rear doors to decking and garden slightly wider. Very large decking area (with marquee style temporary roof). Rear beer garden a bit undulating as is the camping field.
Toilets
Best effort has been made to a very old building, toilet is accessible in a wet room with shower, fixed and fold down rails. A little tatty and possibly not suitable for a large power chair to maneuver, transfers may be difficult to users who are not especially mobile. I had no difficulty but am a wheelchair using above knee amputee.
Staff
Very helpful staff. Manager gave me a full tour of the facilities as I wanted to know about camping in the future while we visited for a mid week lunch.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
http://thewharfinnfennycompton.co.uk/index.html As a very old building making the most of what they have the Inn is a little shabby in some places, but don't be put off. If it was done up to a high standard I dare say everything would be very much more expensive. More suited to those with less severe mobility problems. i.e. active wheelchair users and those using walking aids.
