Get onto the Roof even on two wheels!!!

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair, Powerchair, Mobility Scooter
Overview
Great for wheelchair and mobility challenged persons as you able to catch good size lift to the outside of the roofs and see live restoration occurring. Witnessing nearly 500 years of building, extensions and restorations and other fascinating details on the house. At the moment go into the house as many of the furnishings now on ground floor. Staff & volunteers very knowledgeable and helpful. Quick do it now as restoration work finishes next year!
Transport & Parking
You need a vehicle. When there disabled parking. There is also a buggy to take mobility challenged directed to house.
Access
Getting to into house ramps. Currently a large lift (as part of roof restoration) to take you to top of roof. Currently access to view house tour is on ground floor as is Chapel. Though wheelchairs not allowed in Chapel staff very helpful in pointing our significant points of interest that can be seen from doorway. Found access to coffee shop narrow with small step okay for wheelchair but accessibility inside is challenging as a very small area.
Toilets
Great. Could move around. Specific to disabled people (not a dual baby changing area) Only 4.5 points as had to wait for 15 minutes whilst an abled father & little boy finished using the Disabled Toilet. Suggested they put a sign on door stating if you not disabled us the door to your left hand side.
Staff
Most were extremely kind and helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Felt like a human being not a nuisance. If you have an all-terrain wheelchair or can walk for 1/4 mile suggest go into the woodland walk area. You'll find a nice surprise - a wheelchair board walk and accessible bird hide - brilliant! Plus find out I could get further compensation as a disabled person on the cost of NT membership (not advertised though) Thanks National Trust
