Overview
We had a tasty lunch in this airy cafe which is run by the Port William Inshore Rescue Service to support their independent lifeboat. Half star off is only because of the parking which I don't think is run by the owners.
Transport & Parking
The car park beside the venue is, I think, a public car park. The surface is gravel although I was just about able to push the wheelchair over it. It would also be possible to drop someone off at the concrete area at the bottom of the ramp. In the nearby square there is further parking.
Access
A good concrete ramp to the door. Inside is all on the level with a hard floor. Tables are well spaced out so it's easy to move a wheelchair.
Toilets
A roomy accessible toilet with plenty of space for wheelchair and assistant. There are grab rails on both sides. The door to the toilets is easily reached so no-one has to move their chairs to allow access.
Staff
All very pleasant and helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Staff at the door to ensure sanitiser used. They even squirted it on to my relative's hand. We have often found she cannot reach a fixed dispenser from the wheelchair. The cafe has an extensive menu, more than shown on their website so try Facebook. Food ranges from cakes to toasties and hot meals such as fish and chips. Children (or the young at heart?) can order a plastic bucket of chips and keep the bucket and spade! There is a small range of gifts and cards. The restaurant is not open every day, perhaps because of the time of year. At times (currently some evenings) it operates only as a bar. Locally there is an accessible toilet in Port William (one drop down rail and one diagonally attached to the wall) and there are two in Isle of Whithorn, one attached to a building, near the entry to the village and one in a portacabin in the harbour car park. The latter is very roomy, with rails each side, but has a steep ramp up to it.
