Overview
The whole experience of visiting the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace with a disabled person is a joy from start to finish. We've been doing it for nearly 10 years. You have to book by phone but the number is clearly visible on the website. You select a time slot because of structural issues with the building. You don't have to queue. Instead you get picked up by buggy from the front of the place and that is a fun experience in itself. The staff are helpful, courteous and friendly - without exception. You take a different route than non-disabled people but get to see everything. There is a private little shop at the end which can be really useful when the bigger shop is busy.
Transport & Parking
If you had a car you can actually park it in the Palace grounds - 'the safest car parking in London' as one member of staff said.
Access
Everywhere you want to go there is either a lift or a ramp. All members of an 'access' group wear a particular colour lanyard so that you are easily recognisable by the staff and can use the lifts, etc.
Toilets
There is a specific loo which all members of the access group are offered. It is large and has everything you need, and more. Very private and comfortable.
Staff
Utterly wonderful - year after year.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Even if you don't think that this is your 'thing' - do give it a go as it is really very interesting and a joy in terms of accessibility.
