Overview

SAT NAV. GL54 2 HS. THE SLAUGHTERS COUNTRY INN. LOWER SLAUGHTER A most delightful countryside Inn which stands in the majestic village of Lower Slaughter. Set on the banks of the river Eye which runs gently through the heart of the village, and located in an area known as Washbournes place when taking its name from the Washbourne family who owned the land and property in 1470. First of all it was ;three farm cottages, but in 1920’s these were converted into a private house. It then became a small school, before again returning to private ownership, then later, in 1988 the house opened as a hotel, Washbourne Court, then after floods in July 2007 it was shut, and a £2million refurbishment allowed it to reopen in December 2007, before being bought in 2011 by the hotel chain, Andrew Brownsword Hotel group, and converting the hotel and renaming it as The Slaughters Country Inn. The grounds have beautiful lawns which run around the grade 11 listed hotel and alongside part of the river Eye and offer a lovely backdrop when taking photos. The river Eye wends it way around the property (photo 1) to reach the bridge on the bend and the driveway for The Slaughters Country Inn (photo 2) and their car park sign calls you in (photo 3). Go under the arch and pass on your left an entrance that will take visitors into the Bar lounge restaurant (photo 4) The driveway (photo 5) takes you round to their private car park, usually with spaces available (photo 6) Alongside the car park are a number of ground floor bedrooms (photo 7) ideal for disabled if you fancy an overnight stay, and they have 14 delightful and modern rooms for you to choose from (photo 8). Enter into the reception area (photo 9) and you get a feel of luxury straight away (photo 10) before walking down the lovely passageway (photo 11) and into the Bar area, where drinks will be ordered, along with your lunch time food order (photo 12). Stroll ahead into a lovely Bar restaurant area (photo 13) with lots of seating areas, or pick a quiet corner to yourselves ( photo 14) This restaurant offers good old English meals with a selection that will suit your palate. A brightly coloured passage will catch your eye (photo 15) which turns out to be another toilet room, but again just basic ladies and gents, but very clean and looked after well (photo 16) . Just close to these is the door (photo 17) that will take you out into the terrace (photo 18) and a choice of any seat you like (photo 19) OUR FINAL THOUGHTS If you wanted to stay in the heart of the Cotswold, then this is a beautiful hotel to stay in, with a number of ground floor rooms available. It’s utterly charming, in beautiful surroundings, what’s not to like about it. We would highly recommend this hotel to you.

Transport & Parking

4

Ideal parking to see this very delightful Country Inn and Hotel, in their own car park, and just across the road from a most lovely village and clear brown river that flows by at a most sedate pace.

Access

Nice easy journey to get here through beautiful scenery, and a decent sized carpark. It’s level to enter the Hotel, and other than the restaurant, everywhere is level, but even then, we believe they will put up a ramp for you to enjoy afternoon tea, or dinner later on in the lovely restaurant.

Toilets

No disabled toilets, just basic ladies and gents, but very clean and well looked after. There are ladies and gents by the main restaurant, and another set down at the bar area and it’s restaurant and terrace gardens.
