Overview
Today visited the Scottish Parliament using the Welcome App. Security passed me through quickly as I have a problem standing and I was then met by Robert who knew my name, introduced himself and produced a portable seat for me to use on arrival. Since my husband was with me we took this around with us which meant I could sit in front of the displays and in the shop. The entrance is on the level with accessible doors for power chair access, the staff, especially Robert, were all friendly and most helpful. There is a cafe on the level. I could not have had more helpful assistance.
Transport & Parking
I believe there is car parking across the road we took a taxi from North Bridge although I believe a bus does go down the Royal Mile.
Access
Access is directly off the street with two sets of doors revolving and power pad entrance. The exit is the same with power pad opening and a time lock outer door. Inside there were lifts to the upper floors. There was seating available in different sections but I asked for a seat and was given a portable one on arrival.
Toilets
I did not use this but there was an accessible loo on the ground floor
Staff
Robert who met me introduced himself knew my name and was very friendly and helpful, he gave us a history of the 3 honours statue and explained the layout of the building with a map. He had read my requirements was there to welcome me and produced a portable chair for me to sit on upon arrival, indeed we took it around with us. He offered us tickets for Members Questions but we could not stay for this.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Overall it was brilliant I could not have had a better experience, I would recommend it to anyone but remember I was using the Welcome App and everyone was preadvised about my requirements. I will go back again to look at the displays in depth.
