Overview
The Scottish Parliament receives tops marks for accessibility. It has excellent wheelchair access, provides materials in alternative formats, has signed materials, and its staff are happy to help.
Transport & Parking
Disabled parking bays are available immediately opposite the main entrance on the far side of the road. If you are coming to an event by invitation you may be able to make arrangements for close proximity parking if you speak to the event organiser.
Access
Access was great as a power chair user with level surfaces, people willing to assist with any doors that were not automated, a guide for disabled visitors, and plenty of accessible toilets. Staff very helpful across the board from the reception desk through to getting a coffee in the cafe, and making a purchase in the shop.
Toilets
Some of the best accessible toilets in town! There are several accessible toilets all with differing permutations of layout. All the features you would expect and spotlessly clean. A Changing Places toilet is also available; just ask a member of staff for directions.
Staff
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The experience started with the security entrance where the checks were sensitively conducted, the reception staff who used the dropped counter so I could talk to them on the level, through to the cafe and shop staff who helped with purchases.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
A great place to visit enjoy exploring as well as a welcome coffee stop (the food was good as well). It's a great example of what can be done to include everybody.
