Overview
Excellent coffee and food, friendly and helpful staff and a great location for those wheeling or walking along the Water of Leith path. Non-dairy and vegetarian & vegan options are available.
Transport & Parking
We wheeled and walked from home. There's no nearby parking - this is definitely an off-road venue. Lothian buses 12, 26 & 31 (westbound and eastbound) stop near to the Riversdale Crescent & Roseburn Place approaches to Roseburn Park, and the cafe is roughly half way between those two entrances.
Access
The venue gets 4.5 stars because they've done their very best to make a small building accessible. One entrance is ramped. An unaccompanied wheelchair user might find the latch on that door a bit tricky because it's quite high up and that's the only reason this doesn't get 5 stars. The number of tables is inevitably small, though sensible use is made of the space. In good weather there's always the option of sitting outside in the park, where there are benches & a table and chairs set out by the cafe staff.
Toilets
Again, a great job given the limited space. There's an alarm cord by the loo, which stretches down to the floor. The basin is approachable. There are horizontal and vertical grab rails on the basin side of the loo, and a fold down grab rail on the other side. There's room for a carer, though it might be a tight fit. The loo was clean and tidy. It's an all-purpose space, available to all customers.
Staff
On both visits we found the staff friendly and enthusiastic. The conversion of the building (formerly a disused toilet block) into a cafe was an initiative of the Friends of Roseburn Park, with hard work from volunteers and support from community councils and local residents. The cafe is currently open from Wednesday-Sunday inclusive, 8am to 4pm. On our second visit, the barista told us that catering is provided by the same firm who run the Dower House Cafe in St Margaret's Park, Corstorphine and we'll be checking that out soon.
