Overview

We arrived at lunchtime... hungry... so headed straight to the cafe. It was spotlessly clean and easy to move around. The museum was really good - all on one level and with all activities at wheelchair level. The walk to the cottage is flat and easy but the path up to the cottage is slightly uphill on loose gravel. The cottage is lovely but has uneven flooring and cobbles.

Transport & Parking

We arrived by motorhome and parked in coach parking. The car park is flat and reasonably well surfaced. Blue badge spaces are by the entrance. We walked everywhere but there is also blue badge parking at the cottage.

Access

Access to the museum and cafe was superb. Everything is laid out well and on the level. The walk to the cottage and to the monument are good too. The paths are level and easy to manage. At the cottage there is a path up which is gravel and a bit harder with a manual wheelchair. The cottage has a one-way system. The IN door was wide enough but the OUT door was too narrow, so I had to go back the way I'd come. Fortunately, it wasn't busy. The monument was easy to get to but the garden paths there are pebble and very soft. I switched chairs and used my mountain trike. With that, I could get round but not inside the monument. The gardens were beautiful though and there is a good view over the Brig O'Doon.

The accessible toilet in the museum was good. It was clean and spacious.

All staff were very helpful. They were either able to answer our questions about access or find out from someone else.
