Overview
The Red Dragon Centre is particularly convenient for those staying at the Travelodge Cardiff Atlantic Wharf, as it's directly behind the hotel. This entertainment centre has several restaurants, an Odeon cinema, a Hollywood Bowl, and even a Grosvenor Casino for those who haven't spent all their money on delicious Welshcakes. It also features a gym, in case you do have too many Welshcakes. The location takes its name from the now-defunct Red Dragon FM radio station. It's now home to Capital FM, but the name remains.
Transport & Parking
At the main entrance, there's a vast car park that features 42 full-size accessible parking spaces and 858 standard parking spaces. Parking is free for up to six hours, although you must register your car at the available parking terminals and check out. It's advised that you must spend £6 in the centre at any of the venues inside and retain proof of purchase. Make sure to review the Red Dragon's website before your visit. The closest bus stop is on Lloyd George Avenue, 320 metres from the Red Dragon Centre, where the 6 Baycar, 304, 305, and X2 operate. Close to the bus stop on Lloyd George Avenue, you'll also find Cardiff Bay Railway Station, where there's a shuttle service to and from Cardiff Queen Street Railway Station every 12 minutes. Cardiff Bay Railway Station is adding a second line at the time of this review, so there may be alternative routes in the future.
Access
At the car park, you'll find tactile paving and a zebra crossing. It's worth noting that there's a steep descent on either side of the crossing, which may pose a challenge to some. There are accessible double doors on either side of the building; however, in both instances, only one of the two doors opened. It's still wide enough for my manual wheelchair, but it's a little disappointing when there are two. The venue is spacious, with level access throughout and loads of room to manoeuvre around the main areas and the restaurants. I didn't see any seating areas other than in the restaurants or the cinema. I didn't spot the use of braille, BSL, or induction loops anywhere at this location, which is why the score is a little lower.
Toilets
For the life of me, I couldn't see signage for the accessible toilets, but I expect each of the restaurants and the cinema will have toilets.
Staff
happened to eat at the Everytime restaurant in the centre. I was the only person there, so I'm not sure if that's a good sign, but the one member of staff was very nice.
