Overview
Level access visit to the cafe for an afternoon catch-up with my friend for a coffee and cake, then had a look around the shop which goes around the cafe tables and beside the counter that you pay for what you had at the cafe.
Transport & Parking
When I visited I took my car so I parked in the car park which was paved but a little bumpy with potholes. The disabled parking is right beside the entrance to The Pine Cone Café but sorry forget to get a photo of the car park. The Pine Cone Café is outwith the city centre of Dundee so I’m not sure if any of the public buses go near the area.
Access
It is level access into The Pine Cone Café, you go through a single door that you have to open manually into a hallway where there is a standard toilet and an accessible toilet then you open another manual single door into the café. I can’t comment on the heaviness of the door as I can’t open it myself but they were easy enough to get through with the width of my standard powerchair. The café tables are straight in front of you as you come through the door and to the left, the café counter where you pay is to the left but it is table service and there is a little shop beside the café counter as well as shelves showing items you can purchase around the café tables too. When we visited it was fairly quiet so I managed to get to a table in the center of the café but I think I would of struggled getting to certain tables if it was busier. The tables were at a good height as well for my wheelchair. I didn’t go near the café counter as I got my carer to pay for the gingerbread man that I bought so I can’t comment on the height of it but I don’t think it was too high. I found parts of the shop hard to get around as there were tables right beside some of the shelves and the aisles were quite narrow which you see in pictures below. There is outdoor seating also available undercover which we didn’t sit at but you can see a picture below of the area.
Toilets
There is one accessible toilet in The Pine Cone Café and is a good size for a wheelchair user, if the bins were moved I think there would be enough room for someone to transfer at either side. Thankfully the emergency red cord was hanging freely but not fully to the floor.
Staff
All staff we spoke to were very friendly. I phoned the morning before I visited to see if I could book a table and they were very apologetic that you can only book for afternoon tea but very helpful on when it is quieter.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I didn’t notice many Covid-19 precautions in place however I did feel safe when visiting as it was quiet and all staff were wearing masks.
