Overview

This review is for The Petersham, a step free, Italian restaurant in Covent Garden owned by Petersham Nurseries.

Transport & Parking

The nearest tube stations are Covent Garden and Leicester Square, both of which are not step free. The nearest step free tube station is Tottenham Court Road. There are lots of buses that stop nearby, I would suggest getting a bus that goes along Charing Cross Road and alighting at Leicester Square and from there it is about a 5 minute walk.

Access

The restaurant is located in Floral Court, a small pedestrianised courtyard. This can be entered from Floral Street or King Street. The photos I have taken are of the Floral Street entrance as this is the one I used. This entrance has a short, covered pedestrianised walkway with a handrail on one side. There is a very slight incline. Once you arrive in Floral Court there is a pathway and two restaurants, The Petersham and La Goccia both of which have their own individual entrance and their own outdoor seating. There was a blackboard with a plan of the courtyard, which clearly shows the layout (sorry but my photo of this was blurry so I didn't include it). If you are standing with your back towards the tree, with the bench seating see photo, The Petersham is on the right of the alleyway and La Goccia to the left. There are some free standing table and chairs outside The Petersham. There entrance is step free but it has two sets of double doors, which are heavy. Inside there are free standing table and chairs. We sat on the ground floor.

Toilets

There was no signage to the accessible toilet and I had to ask a member of staff who took me there. The accessible toilet is on the ground floor, hidden away in a corner, behind a curtained area. The toilet was spacious and clean. There were plenty of grab rails. The emergency cord was tided up when I arrived so I untied it (I forgot my red cord cards). There was a table with a basket of toilet roll on it, which may prevent easy access of the toilet for wheelchair users.

Staff

Staff were exceptional. They were very friendly, provided efficient service, were extremely helpful and really added to the overall enjoyment of the visit.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

We went for the Festive afternoon tea which was amazing. I love afternoon tea and this was exceptional. The food was delicious, using high quality products and very imaginatively presented. The savouries and cakes were in a tiered cake stand which was topped with a small floral display, and we noted that every afternoon tea had a different floral display. The savouries were creative and both our food preferences were easily accommodated. The scones were fantastic and included clotted cream and their own Petersham jam. The cakes were beautifully presented. There were Christmas pudding chocolate choux bun, Gingerbread macaron, Italian clementine trifle, Roasted chestnut Mont Blanc tartlet and mince pies topped with a fondant snowflake. The whole experience was perfect and we had such a lovely time. I loved everything about it and being so accessible in the heart of Covent Garden made it so easy to just sit back and enjoy it. I can't wait to go back and looking forward to the summer when I can sit out in their courtyard. Highly recommend. Just book it!
