This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Assistance Dog - Visual, Symbol Cane
Overview
We visited with an assistance dog and the attitude and helpfulness of the staff guaranteed repeat custom from us. The staff, food and atmosphere at the Old Chain Pier are second to none. Though for wheelchair users the toilets are likely to be inaccessible, due to the steps.
Transport & Parking
There's a bus stop directly opposite and parking available very close by, just off the road where the pub is situated, on Newhaven's side streets
Access
This is an old building, with narrow doors and a small-ish cosy interior, that may pose some slight problems for some wheelchair users. Though if you were to call in advance for help and information about the pub's accessibility, from experience, the superb and helpful staff will do all they can to accommodate your visit.
Toilets
As a warning, there are half a dozen steps down to the toilets, though with the age of the building and its listed status, this cannot be held against the business. Using a symbol cane, this was no problem for my mother however this would be an entirely different matter if one of us were a wheelchair user.
Staff
There are only the most warm, upbeat, good-humoured and helpful people working at the Old Chain Pier. They always make us feel completely welcome.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Impressive views of the Forth, big windows and an old-fashioned, cosy atmosphere. Water and a treat was provided for our guide dog as well as crayons and toys for our child.
