Afternoon Tea
Visit date:
Overview
Nice, spacious restaurant at the back of the Glasshouse Hotel in Edinburgh. Good access, although bit of a maze to reach the restaurant!
Transport & Parking
There's a large taxi rank at the front of the building and regular busses passing by. There isn't any on-street parking, but there are a few large indoor car parks at nearby John Lewis. The pedestrian path leading up to the building is exceptionally wide and smooth.
Access
There is a low smooth ramp into the main entrance through glass doors. We were met in the hallway by a member of staff who knew we would be arriving as we had booked afternoon tea. He offered to carry our shopping bags and walked us all the way to The Observatory Restaurant (which is a surprising distance away). We took the medium-sized lift up and had a long carpeted corridor to walk along. The signage isn't great, so it was brilliant to have someone directing us there as it felt like a complete maze. Inside the restaurant, it was brightly lit and had full-length windows looking up to Calton Hill. The tables and seats were all low (no bar stools or high tables), and the chairs could all be moved. The restaurant was carpeted with soft lighting. We did have to find our own way back as we left however, so this could be an issue if you can't remember the way!
Toilets
I didn't use these, but I did spot them walking towards the restaurant. They were not that well sign-posted however.
Staff
Very helpful, friendly and attentive!
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The restaurant is great, stars are dropped only for the long walking distance to the restaurant and the lack of clear signage.
