Overview

The Lucky Liquor Co. is a small but well laid out cocktail bar on Queen Street. The access inside is decent with a few small fixes needed, and the venue is still waiting on a ramp for the low step outside - but one is on the way! The bar is good fun with a vinyl only music policy and extremely creative cocktails.

Transport & Parking

3.5

This bar is located almost on the corner of Queen Street and Frederick Street. It is a short walk from frequent bus stops on Princes Street and the pavements are wide and level. There is on-street parking available on Queen Street, although we didn't use this so can't comment on accessibility.

Access

3.5

There is a very low step on entry to The Lucky Liquor Co. which could be an issue for some wheelchair-users, although the bar manager told us they are expecting a portable ramp designed specifically for the venue to arrive soon. Inside, the venue is small, but it definitely isn't cramped. The tables and moveable chairs don't take up a lot of space and there is a very clear, wide route to the bar and accessible toilet. We visited late on a Saturday night and it wasn't crowded; in fact it was a great atmosphere. Be aware that the bar is quite high and there aren't any dropped counters, however we received table service all night so this isn't too much of an issue. There are actually two levels to this venue, but the basement level is down a narrow set of stairs and may be inaccessible to some people. There is only one bar however, and that is on the ground floor, level with the street. The lighting level is low but not dark and the music isn't excessively loud.

Toilets

3.5

The toilet is really big! The door opens outward and is very wide, and inside there is a massive full length mirror and lots of space to turn around. My only gripe was that the emergency red cord was tied up, but this is something that could be easily fixed. Perhaps one less bin in here might give wheelchair users some more room too, but overall the toilet is quite good. It is used by all customers however as this is a small venue, but as I said it really wasn't overcrowded or too busy like other nearby bars.

Staff

The staff here are lovely. They offer table service and clearly take a lot of pride in their mixology. When I asked about ramp access for the small step outside, I was told they would get in touch with me as soon as the carpenter has delivered it.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

You can check out the cocktail menu on their website before you go if you like! The venue really is pretty good given the limitations of the building; and as soon as the portable ramp arrives and the emergency cord is untied, the rating for this venue could quite easily go up!
