Beautiful but all steps - NOT wheelchair friendly

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair, Powerchair

Overview

This is a beautiful pagoda, celebrating the Buddha, and dedicated to the concept of world peace. There are four separate golden panels depicting incidents in the Buddha's life. It's definitely worth a visit, BUT it's not remotely wheelchair friendly.

Transport & Parking

2

There's very little accessible public transport in the vicinity. Bus routes 44, 137 and 452 will drop you off at the Chelsea Gate of the park. I don't know about parking.

Access

Battersea Park is generally good for wheelchair access, but look out for dreadful kerbs and bumpy pavements - it's all a bit ramshackle and you risk a rough ride if you're not alert. But the Peace Pagoda itself is totally un-wheelchair-friendly because the only way to get to the upper platform, in order to get a good close-up view of the beautiful golden panels depicting the Buddha's life, is to ascend one of four flights of steep stairs. See my photo below. Zero stars for this.

Toilets

0

I haven't checked out any toilets in Battersea Park, so zero stars here means "I don't know".

Staff

0

I have never met any staff in Battersea Park, not even tree surgeons, so zero stars here means "I don't know".
