Overview
We visited the Kelpies as part of a motorhome road trip. We intended to stay over. They charge about £12.50 a night to stop over in a motorhome or campervan. However, after we arrived, we discovered that the evening light show (which was our main reason for going) was out of action. The evening/night weather forecast was also dismal, so we just made it a day trip.
Transport & Parking
Daytime parking for blue badge holders is free. If you arrive in a motorhome, they direct you to park opposite the coach bays during the day. You can then pay to stay over in the main car park after 17:30. The car parks and the ground are all pretty level, with good paths.
Access
This was a very easy place to get around in a wheelchair. The paths are all level and very wide. Where there are steps, they have put in alternative routes with nice easy ramps, nothing steep or difficult. The canal paths are good quality too, and there is a route over to a lake in Helix Park, which takes you over good quality duckboarding. It's really pretty and worth exploring the whole park area.
Toilets
Right by the car park is a toilet block with an accessible toilet/baby change, and a Changing Places, which is RADAR locked. I used this several times during our visit and it was a Godsend!
Staff
We only really spoke to the car park staff but they were lovely.
