Overview
I had contacted the inn to check on access for a wheelchair and also about dietary requirements before deciding to go ahead with the booking for our family lunch . I was told access was via a side door rather than the main entrance as this had some steps . I discussed my dietary requirements with the manager, and explained these were caused by the medication taken for my condition . He asked what was best for me to have . As they had chicken on the menu .I suggested a plain grilled chicken breast with either chips, mash, new or roast potatoes, carrots, peas, parsnip. I asked could they do either a chicken gravy no seasoning or a red wine jus. I was told no problem at all. The manager even phoned twice before our visit yo double check on what I wanted. When we arrived we couldn’t see the side entrance I was told to use. Turns out this was down a covered walkway . There was no disabled parking and I had to negotiate a kerb to get to the path . We decided the best option was for the wheelchair to be put on the path and my family would help me walk the few steps and up the kerb. Once inside there was enough room to get the wheelchair to our table . We had expected it to be busy given it was a Saturday lunchtime. But the place was empty . The food my family ordered was ok but unfortunately mine was not. My family said my face was quite a picture when they brought mine out. Everything had been soaked for some considerable time in red wine, the potatoes, carrots peas which were shrivelled up and the chicken were all a dark red colour which went through to the middle of all the food, the red jus was just like warmed wine from a bottle. I’ve had plenty of red wine jus over the years , it’s normally more like a gravy in consistency. I can have very little wine or alcohol due to my medication, unfortunately this was far too much wine and it caused me to have a bad reaction . I was unable to eat or drink anything for a number of hours , I spent ages in the toilet with my daughter. It really spoilt our day. They just didn’t do what I asked for at all. My daughter asked if I could have a glass of orange squash , the member of staff just put neat squash in a glass handed it to my daughter who had to ask if water could be added. The member of staff seemed shocked at that request. We certainly wouldn’t visit again .
Transport & Parking
We drove here. No disabled parking.it’s a gravel parking area and a kerb to negotiate.
Access
Ok once we found the side entrance . Although getting to the toilets not great tables and chairs in the way
Toilets
These were ok but not much room to move .
Staff
The manager didn’t do as requested for my meal which was awful very unacceptable. My meal was so unappetising, it looked awful . No manager on duty just a bar person .
