Overview
This is my local village inn. We have had quite a lot of meals here since Fiona and Ian took it over a number of years ago. You can eat in one of two bar areas or in the restaurant. To access the restaurant you need to go up a few shallow steps. We usually eat in one of the bar areas. As this is easier for me when I have my wheelchair. Although more often than not I used my scooter to go down and leave this under the cover at the front of the inn. . I then use my special crutches to get inside which is on one level and to the bar area. The inn Is very old and was once a coaching inn, the floors are stone in the bar area. Staff are always friendly and helpful when we visit. I also have to avoid certain types of food, herbs and spices and the kitchen have always accommodated my needs. The food is amazing and there is plenty of choice on the menu, Monday to Friday they also do a special 2/3 course meal offer and Sunday they offer a roast meal as well. On one of our visits in December 2020, it had been snowing by the time we left, I was told to stay at my table while the owner Ian and another member of staff cleared a path for me to leave out of the front door and get to our car which my husband had brought round from the car park at the back of the inn. The staff really can’t do enough to assist and are always happy to open doors etc.
Transport & Parking
There is a car park at the rear of the inn, from here you go down a slop past the kitchen and round to the front door. The bus stop is right outside the inn. If we do go down in the car then my husband drops me off outside and makes sure I’ve been able to get inside where staff then assist me to get to my table while he goes to out the car in the carpark
Access
Access to the inn is flat no steps at all, the only steps are to access the restaurant area and these are shallow with a banister rail . There are no steps to get to the bar area which has socially distance tables so plenty of room to get around if I have my wheelchair, the restaurant also has plenty of room for me to get around using my special crutches as again tables are socially distanced. I have always found staff are happy to assist if needed
Toilets
There is a disabled toilet but I have not used it
Staff
Staff are friendly and helpful. They are also knowledgeable about the meals on the menu and are more than happy to check out what is used in the recipes should you need to know. It’s always best to inform them of any dietary needs when booking . But as we’ve used it so many times they know us well.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Tables are well spaced out and there are signs up about mask wearing, and hand sanitizer stations. They take your personal information if the current situation asks for that. It was only table service when we visited in Dec and had been that for some time. They also have an outside area with garden tables and benches which is near to the car park there is space for my wheelchair to get around this area , which is fenced off from the car park, the area is gravel with planters along the walls, inside the inn I have plenty of space for my wheelchair to get around if I’m using that . Staff are very helpful and chatty. We will certainly continue to visit on a regular basis. I feel very covid safe here.
